BIONIC (DEPQ/DEAQ)

BIONIC is the name of a Dutch consortium that initiated two additional questionnaires on lifetime mood disorders in the Lifelines cohort.
The first questionnaire (DEPQ) comprised of the Lifetime Depression Assessment Self-Report (LIDAS). The second questionnaire (DEAQ) was performed in collaboration with the University Center of Psychiatry at the UMCG in Groningen and contained both the LIDAS and several additional questions (e.g. on lifetime anxiety disorders).
Note that recent/ongoing depression & anxiety of Lifelines participants were assessed in general assessments 1A, 2A and 3A using the MINI.

When the LIDAS items of DEPQ/DEAQ have been used in your research, you will have to include the following references:

Fedko et al. Measurement and genetic architecture of lifetime depression in the Netherlands as assessed by LIDAS (Lifetime Depression Assessment Self-report). Psychol Med. 2020 Jan;51(8): 1-10

When the DEAQ data has been used in your research, you will have to include the following reference: van Loo et al., The structure of the symptoms of major depression: Factor analysis of a lifetime worst episode of depressive symptoms in a large general population sample. J Affect Disord 2022; 307: 115-124

Subcohort

  • For DEPQ (2016), the LIDAS was sent to all adult participants with a known e-mail address within the GWAS subcohort (n=~10.000). ~5500 participants (50%) filled in the questionnaire.
  • For DEAQ (2018), the LIDAS plus additional questions (mostly regarding lifetime anxiety) was sent to all adult participants with a known e-mail address in the entire cohort (n=133.000). ~43.500 participants (36%) filled in the questionnaire.

Variables

DEPQ consisted of variables in the following subsections:

DEAQ consisted of variables in the following subsections:

Note that several LIDAS variables can also be found under the subsections Mental illnesses, Familial mental illnesses, Physical activity (general), Smoking & tobacco use, Medication, and Treatment (general).

Funding

This project was funded by the Dutch research infrastructure for biobanking (BBMRI-NL) as Rainbow project Phenomics 2.0 – proof of principle for major depressive disorder (RP-12).
