====== Respiratory problems (ELON) ======

The "Europees Luchtwegonderzoek Nederland III short questionnaire" (ELON III) is the Dutch version of the [[https://www.ecrhs.org/|European Community Respiratory Health Survey (ECRHS)]].\\ 
The short survey, together with the long version, has been used since 1991 as the standard questionnaire for epidemiological studies on respiratory health.\\
In [[start|Lifelines]], the ELON is part of the [[diseases & symptoms]] [[sections|section]].\\
Note that Lifelines also assessed [[respiratory diseases]] and [[respiratory problems (general)]].

The original ELON is a 16-item questionnaire with 4 aims.\\ 
Two of these original aims were covered independently from the ELON in Lifelines:
  * collect basic information regarding [[smoking & tobacco use|smoking status]];
  * confirm length of time each person has lived at their current [[home environment (general)|address]].

The two other aims were reached using the ELON: 
  * basic health information regarding respiratory status;
  * assessment of who is taking inhaled steroids or other medication related to respiratory diseases.
